v1. This describes what TAILSCOPE actually does today. It has not
yet been reviewed by a lawyer — that review is planned before this is treated as
final.
This page describes what data TAILSCOPE collects and why, based on how the
Service is actually built.
What we store
- Email address — used for magic-link sign-in and account
identification. No password is ever collected or stored.
- Tailscale OAuth client ID and secret — the credentials you
paste in to connect your tailnet. The secret is encrypted at rest. It is used
solely to request short-lived API access tokens from Tailscale's own OAuth
endpoint in order to read your device list; TAILSCOPE never writes to your
tailnet or changes its configuration.
- Device metadata — name, OS, addresses, last-seen time, and
key-expiry date for devices in your connected tailnet, polled periodically to
power the dashboard, history charts, and alerts.
- Billing status — via Stripe. We store your subscription
status (active/inactive) but not your card number or other payment details;
that lives with Stripe.
- Live flow data (opt-in only) — if you run the optional
agent, we receive rolling traffic byte-rate snapshots for the live particle-flow
panel. This data is not retained long-term; it exists only to drive the live
view.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't use your device or tailnet data for anything
other than operating the Service for your account. We don't share your Tailscale
credentials with any third party.
Third parties involved
Stripe (subscription payments), GitHub Sponsors (optional voluntary
sponsorship), Resend (transactional email for magic links and alerts), and
Tailscale's own API (to read your device list) are the only third-party services
TAILSCOPE talks to on your behalf.
Data retention and deletion
Disconnecting your tailnet or canceling your subscription stops further polling.
You can request deletion of your account data via the contact method below.
